The Bachelorette's Rachel Lindsay's Estranged Husband Bryan Abasolo Reveals the Text He Sent Before Filing for Divorce
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Bryan Abasolo filed for divorce from *The Bachelorette* star Rachel Lindsay on December 31, 2023, citing 'irreconcilable differences' and seeking spousal support.
Lindsay, known for her appearances on the 21st season of "The Bachelor" and as the lead on the 13th season of "The Bachelorette", claimed she was 'shocked' by the filing, which she learned about through a text message Abasolo sent her shortly after leaving their house.
"Approximately 30 minutes after he left the house, he sent me a text message that simply read, 'Hey … I just wanted to let you know that I officially filed,'" the 39-year-old reality TV star stated in a June 26 filing.
Amid their acrimonious divorce proceedings, the 44-year-old chiropractor shared the text message he sent Lindsay before filing for divorce. In a recent filing, Abasolo denied her claim that he abruptly informed her via text and revealed the full content of his message.
"Rachel, walking into the room because I didn't reply to your text per your timeline then raising your voice for not getting the immediate answer you want is the kind of one-sided controlling aspect of our relationship which has brought us to this point," the message began.
"My inability to communicate, as you've called it, is to prevent these kinds of reactions," he continued. "It often feels like you must have what you want without considering any state of mind I'm in."
Abasolo added, "I'm sorry for not replying to your text but honestly, I don't really want to be on the receiving end of your wordsmithing anymore. I don't want to be here any longer than I have to. I want to regain some aspect of my self-respect back."
He concluded the text with a plea to keep future communications in writing to prevent further friction. "We can speak in the future in the presence of a neutral party or something. Right now, I just can't do it. I haven't been able to for a while. Respectfully. Good night."
Abasolo countered Lindsay's claim that she was 'surprised or shocked' by the filing, asserting that she failed to disclose his message about taking their separation to the 'next step.' He also highlighted the 'one-sided controlling aspects' of their relationship as a reason for the divorce.
Additionally, Abasolo contested Lindsay's offer of nearly $10k in monthly spousal support, stating that he needs more than $9,882 each month as it does not cover his expenses and is draining his bank account. He claimed that the amount does not meet the standard of living they maintained during their marriage.
Lindsay addressed the split on her "Higher Learning" podcast, expressing gratitude for the support she received. "First off, I just want to say thank you to people who reached out. I'm still trying to reply to people. You just never know how great your circle is until you see all the people that reach out and love you."
"Obviously it's a difficult time," she continued, acknowledging the headlines about their separation. She added that she needed to distract herself by doing something she loves, like her podcast, and would eventually share the reason behind the separation, but "now is not the time" as she is "just trying to take it day by day."
The couple originally met on "The Bachelorette" and tied the knot in 2019. They were married for four years before Abasolo filed for divorce in December 2023, announcing their decision to separate in January 2024.
