Minnie Driver Says She Dodged a Bullet by Not Marrying Josh Brolin: "Biggest Mistake of My Life"

Minnie Driver, known for her role in *Good Will Hunting*, dropped a bombshell this weekend: she's relieved she didn't marry her ex-fiancé, Josh Brolin. At 54, Minnie reflected on her past, stating, "The one time I was engaged, it would have been, I think, the biggest mistake of my life."

Driver and Brolin, now 56, sparked a romance on the set of the 2000 film *Slow Burn*. Their engagement lasted six months before they called it quits in October 2001. According to a statement from Driver’s publicist, their decision was "mutual and amicable," which is publicist-speak for "we're not spilling the tea."

In her candid interviews, Driver has often discussed how her parents’ rocky relationship affected her own love life. Her dad’s infidelities made her long for marriage, but ironically, she kept choosing the wrong men to fulfill that dream. "If I look at my history, what it did was make me want to be married so much and then choose men who were so not the right men to be married to," she admitted. "So I would carry on longing to be married and to have that conservative version [of a relationship], find men who had no interest in that, and then if one did, run a mile."

Currently, Driver is with someone who doesn’t want to get married but checks all the boxes of her childhood ideal of a husband. "He’s the most devoted, loving, extraordinary... Everything I could have wanted in my childhood idea of a husband, he actually is," she gushed.

This isn’t the first time Driver has been open about her romantic misadventures. She and Matt Damon had a highly publicized breakup just before the 1998 Academy Awards. Damon, ever the gentleman, brought his new girlfriend to the ceremony and then awkwardly declared, "I was with Minnie for a while, but we’re not really romantically involved anymore. We’re just really good friends, and I love her dearly... It wasn’t meant to be, you know? And if it’s not meant to be, then it’s not meant to be." Smooth move, Matt.

In 2022, Driver reflected on the Damon split, describing it as a period of "agony." She acknowledged that Damon’s meteoric rise to fame added to the turmoil. "It’s so tricky, because it’s not deliberate, he couldn’t have helped how famous he became and how his life was being picked over, in the same way that mine was," she said.

So, while Minnie Driver’s love life might read like a Hollywood script filled with twists, turns, and a few dramatic monologues, she seems to have found her leading man in the end – one who’s off the marriage radar but perfect for her nonetheless.
