Kevin Costner: "I Can’t Imagine a Movie Without Strong Women—Or My Ego"

Oscar-winning director Kevin Costner, during a live taping of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, revealed his deep commitment to including robust female characters in his films. "I just hardly couldn't conceive of a scene that didn't involve women or a young girl raised by a strong woman," he said, likely because he’s had enough Westerns with just grumpy old cowboys.

Joined by his Horizon: An American Saga co-stars Sam Worthington, Abbey Lee, and Luke Wilson, Costner delved into the importance of writing fully fleshed-out characters, especially women, who are more than just damsels in distress or background scenery in the typical Western. And let's be honest, even cowboys need someone to tell them when their hat is on backward.
